The Legal Update I & II courses are required continuing education for all real estate sales agents and brokers. New and updated versions are created every two years to ensure the content stays accurate, fresh and relevant. The content in these courses help sales agents and brokers protect consumers of real estate services by educating them in need-to-know information.
Anyone who teaches these courses must successfully complete the TREC Legal Update I & II Instructor Training by attending each session and passing each course exam with at least an 80% score.
The Instructor Training is designed to not only highlight the most critical course topics, but also to demonstrate modern teaching techniques and ways to engage students in interactive exercises provided in course materials.
License holders who attend an Instructor Training will be awarded elective CE credit that will count toward their license renewal. To receive non-elective CE credit, the instructor must submit the Instructor Credit Request Form after teaching the course for the first time. This form can be sent via email to education@trec.texas.gov.
Approved continuing education providers who have submitted a Real Estate Non-Elective CE Course Application Form and received written approval notice from TREC may offer the course. They must ensure that any instructor they employ to teach the course meets TREC requirements to teach the current version of the course as outlined in the TREC rules here.
Legal Update courses offered by approved CE providers must be taught in the same manner in which they are presented in the course materials and instructor supplement. Content and power points cannot be altered.
