The Legal Update I & II courses are required continuing education for all real estate sales agents and brokers.
Effective January 1, 2026, the Broker Responsibility course is required for all broker applicants and renewing brokers regardless of whether they sponsor agents. It is also required for all designated supervisors.
The content in these courses help sales agents and brokers protect consumers of real estate services by educating them with need-to-know information.
The 2026-2027 Legal Update Instructor Training is required for instructors of Legal Update for the course cycle that began on January 1, 2026 and expires on December 31, 2027.
The 2025-2026 Broker Responsibility Training is required for instructors of Broker Responsibility for the course cycle that began on January 1, 2025 and expires on December 31, 2026.
Separate instructor training will occur in the fall of 2026 for the new Broker Responsibility cycle for 2027-2028.
Anyone who teaches these courses must successfully complete the instructor training by attending and passing each course assessment with at least an 80% score.
License holders who attend Instructor Training will be awarded elective CE credit that will count toward their license renewal. The instructor may receive non-elective credit after teaching the course for the first time.
Approved continuing education providers who have submitted their Real Estate Non-Elective Course Applications in the REALM portal and received written approval notice from TREC may offer these courses. They must ensure that any instructor they employ to teach the course meets TREC requirements to teach the current version of the course as outlined in the TREC rules here.
Courses offered by approved CE providers must be taught in the same manner in which they are presented in the course materials and instructor supplement. Content and power points cannot be altered.
