About Us

The Course

The 6-hour Broker Responsibility course is required continuing education for all new broker applicants and brokers renewing their licenses regardless of whether they sponsor sales agents. It is also required for all designated supervisors.

The content of this course supports consumer protection by informing brokers and sales agents of their responsibilities to all parties involved in a transaction and providing them with important rule updates.

For Instructors

Successful completion of the 2027-2028 Broker Responsibility Instructor Training is required before any instructor can teach the new Broker Responsibility Course for the course cycle that begins on January 1, 2027, and expires on December 31, 2028.

Individuals who teach Broker Responsibility must successfully complete the instructor training by attending the entire in-person training and passing the end of course assessment with a score of at least 80%.

License holders who attend Instructor Training will be awarded elective CE credit that will count toward their license renewal. An instructor may receive non-elective CE credit only after teaching the course for the first time and submitting an Alternative Credit Request in REALM.

For Education Providers

Approved continuing education providers who have submitted their Real Estate Non-Elective Course Applications in the REALM portal and received written approval notice from TREC may offer these courses. CE providers must ensure that any instructor they employ to teach the course has successfully completed the appropriate Instructor Training and meets TREC requirements as outlined in the TREC rules here.

Non-elective CE courses offered by approved CE providers must be taught in the same manner in which they are presented in the course materials and instructor supplement. Content and power points cannot be altered.
